In my profession I have the pleasure of being able to know first hand, from clients, just how successful my programs are and how pleased people are with the results. Sometimes my clients will contact me and ask about other issues they have and ask if my program would help with those as well.

Recently, attention has been directed to my Stop Snoring program. Clients have contacted me and let me know that this program has helped stop snoring related to their deviated septums. A few others have contacted me and asked if this program can help with a deviated septum.

Your nose has a main wall which is divided into two nasal cavity halves. This wall is supported by a skeleton of mucous membranes on each side. The front of this is wall is made up of cartilage and that is what the "bendable" piece is of your nose.

Normally the wall would divide each nostril into even halves. Many septums, however are not exactly portioned. This is normally not a problem as a septum only off center by a small amount does not generally cause problems.
A deviated septum, one where the wall is extremely off center, can lead to many negative issues. Deviated septum surgeries may have some dangerous side effects but are often necessary.
Issues include:

Snoring,

Nose bleeds

Sleep apnea

Headaches

Chronic sinus infections

There is more than one cause of a deviated septum. Once can be during the fetus’ development in the womb. Another could be the result of an injury during the delivery process. Most commonly though, a deviated septum is caused by an injury to the nose. Your doctor can correctly diagnose a deviated septum and offer suggestions for treatment. Repairing a deviated septum is common and has a few treatments

One treatment would be septoplasty surgery. This is a surgery that reshapes the cartilage and bone and evens out the septum. In fact, this is the most common treatment. All surgery requires risk so make sure that your doctor recommends a specialist. You should perform your own research as well. Don’t feel that you should have to settle on a specialist you don’t feel comfortable with.

Augmentation of the Nose or reconstructive nose surgeries are other names for septoplasty surgery and maybe referred by as such. Expand your personal research by using all the names associated with septoplasty surgery.

For a temporary fix, you can try:

Cortisone sprays

Antihistamines

Decongestants

This will treat the symptoms, although not permanently.

If a natural remedy is what you’re looking for, consider saline drops, natural sprays or certain hot foods which cause tears. Again, this is only a temporary solution.
A nasal lavage is a procedure in which saline solution is run down one nostril and then flows out the other nostril.

A nasospecific procedure is a non-surgical procedure where a balloon is inserted and inflated enough to where it will adjust the deviation. Talk to your doctor about this as a trained practitioner needs to perform this procedure. While my Stop Snoring Program is effective on most any cause of snoring, it was actually created for people with breathing issues, not a deviated septum. So many of my clients have written to me to tell me that my programs have helped them even with a deviated septum, however, so I would suggest a combination of programs - one your doctor recommends as well as my stop snoring program for breathing issues as well as the TMJ program, which has been really helpful with sleep apnea. The benefit of my program is that it is all natural and non-invasive.

Nose polyps are fleshy outgrowths that arise from the mucous membranes of nose or paranasal sinuses. Here is some useful information about nasal polyps.

If your nose is dripping constantly or you are not able to smell or breathe, then you might be suffering from nasal polyps. Nasal polyps are sac-like, small, fleshy growths that develop from the mucous membranes of nose or sinuses. These growths are usually noncancerous/benign. They may vary in sizes and colors such pink, yellowish or grey. There may a single polyp or several polyps grown like a small bunch of grapes. Nasal polyps are caused by chronic inflammation of mucous membrane of nose. They may extend up to the openings of nostrils or down to the throat area and may block nasal passages. Smaller polyps are not much harmful; but larger polyps can affect the sense of smell and hamper your breathing. In some rare cases, huge nasal polyps can change the shape of your nose and face.

Types of Nose Polyps

There are two types of nasal polyps-ethmoidal polyps and antrochoanal polyps. Ethmoidal polyps are bilateral, multiple and may arise from ethmoid sinuses. Antrochoanal polyps are single, unilateral and may originate from maxillary sinuses.

Causes of Nose Polyps

Nasal polyps mainly result from chronic inflammation of mucous membrane, which is caused by bacterial or viral infections or allergies. In most cases, nasal polyps are caused by sinus infections. Chronic inflammation makes the blood vessels in the lining of nose gold and sinuses more permeable, allowing accumulation of water in the cells. These waterlogged tissues may develop to form polyps. People with asthma, cystic fibrosis, hay fever (allergic rhinitis), chronic sinus infections, primary ciliary dyskinesia and common variable immunodeficiency diseases (CVID) are more susceptible to polyps. Approximately one in four people with cystic fibrosis suffer from nasal polyps.

Although nasal polyps can occur in anyone, people older than 40 years are more likely to develop nasal polyp. Multiple polyps can be found in children with allergic rhinitis, allergic fungal sinusitis or cystic fibrosis. About 30% of cases of nasal polyps result from certain environmental allergies. People with nasal polyps should avoid aspirin, as it can cause severe shortness of breath. People with Churg-Strauss syndrome are also at a higher risk of developing nasal polyps. In this disease, there is an inflammation of blood vessels (vasculitis), leading to formation of polyps.

Symptoms of Nasal Polyps

If nasal polyps grow larger or grow in clusters, they can interfere with breathing. They can also block airflow to the sensitive areas in the nose and decrease the sense of smell. Nasal obstruction due to polyps can cause hyposmia or anosmia. Obstruction of sinus ostia can lead to acute or chronic sinus infections. Nasal polyps can exert pressure on nasal or facial bones, leading to destruction of bones. A feeling of blockage in the nose is one of the main symptoms of nasal polyps. It may be difficult for you to breathe through nose. You may start mouth breathing. This is quite troublesome at night and may affect your sleep, causing sleep apnea. Some other symptoms of nasal polyps are runny nose, persistent stuffiness, diminished sense of smell, snoring, headaches and congested sound.

Diagnosis of Nasal Polyps

Diagnosis of nasal polyps is done with the help of medical history and physical examination. Imaging tests such as CT scan can help to determine the location and size of polyps. In case of multiple polyps, diagnostic tests for cystic fibrosis such as noninvasive sweat test are recommended by the doctor. Allergy skin testing is also recommended in case of nasal polyps with hay fever. at times a nose job or plastic surgery will be required if airflow is blocked internally.

Treatment for Nasal Polyps

Nasal polyps can be treated using different medications including antibiotics or steroids such as triamcinolone, mometasone, fluticasone and budesonide. These medications can help to reduce inflammation, improve nasal airflow and shrink polyps. Some other medications such as oral corticosteroids, medications to control allergies such as antihistamine and antifungal medications are also prescribed in order to control allergies and infections. When these medications are not much helpful, a surgery for removing the polyps is recommended by the doctor. Rhinoplasty for males and females has risks and will be discussed with your rhinoplasty doctors. There are various surgical options for polyp removal such as polypectomy and endoscopic sinus surgery. The type of surgery is decided depending upon the number, size and location of the polyps. Nose surgery after pregnancy should be discussed with a physician.

In order to avoid nasal polyps, you need to prevent allergies and infections by taking adequate precautions. You should take an appropriate treatment, if you have hay fever, asthma or chronic sinus infections.

Nasal Polyps - Causes, Symptoms and Treatment
Unfortunately, medical treatment alone is rarely effective in alleviating nasal polyps. Consequently, the doctor will surgically remove the polyps, usually using local anesthesia.

After hearing about deviated septums, I started wondering if maybe I suffer from the same. So I did what I thought was the best thing I could, got information about deviated septum. Here is what I found out…

Do you always find it hard to breathe? Do you also feel breathless and in a manner that has nothing to do with you having a cold or being at higher altitudes? You could have something called a deviated septum.

Introduction to Deviated Septum
The nasal septum is the thin wall inside your nose that separates the two nasal cavities or nostrils. Normally the septum is supposed to be in the center of the nasal cavities, equally dividing the nasal cavity, but most of the time it is a little off-center.

This just results in one nasal cavity being smaller than the other; this is not a major problem. But when the septum is more than slightly off-center, this is the time when there is a deviated septum. A deviated septum could be either a birth defect, or it could be the result of an accident or injury to the nose. In some cases a deviated septum is not a serious issue, but at times it becomes so severe that it completely blocks on nasal cavity and reduces the airflow. This causes nasal snoring and interrupted sleep. Most of the time medication will help a deviated septum, but if it is very severe then surgery is necessary.

Signs and Symptoms of Deviated Septum
Most often the deviation of the septum is so minor that you wont even know you have a deviated symptom, but there are signs and symptoms that you need to be aware of in case you have a serious condition. These signs are symptoms are:

Blocking of nostrils - ever so often do we get a blocked nose that doesn’t let us breathe properly, these are the times we put it down to a cold or congestion. But in case the blockage doesn’t clear and is not related to a cold or allergy, then you could have a deviated septum.

Congestion - when you have a nasal congestion you get a condition called postnasal drip. This is when the mucus doesn’t come out of your nose and goes back into your throat.

Bleeding nose - when your notice an increase in the frequency of nose bleeds, this could be a sign of a deviated septum, be aware that a frequent nose bleeds may be caused by polyps in sinus area. As in the case of deviated septum the nose becomes dry.

Recurring sinusitis - another symptom of deviated symptom is the recurrence of sinusitis with its typical blocked nose, headaches and face pains.

Snoring or noisy breathing while sleeping - most people snore, but in case you notice a change in pattern of snoring or noise during sleeping by children, there could be a more severe underlying problem of a deviated septum.

Causes of Deviated Septum
There are many causes for a deviated septum. Sometimes the septum is deviated in the fetal stages itself and only becomes obvious during birth. The most common cause though for a deviated symptom is an injury to the head and nose. This is most apparent with kids who are actively involved in sports or could be due to sheer clumsiness.

Deviated Septum Surgery

A deviated septum surgery is only necessary when treatments like decongestants, antihistamines and nasal cortisone sprays fail and do not improve the situation. The only way to correct a deviated septum is to get nose surgery. This deviated septum surgery is called a septoplasty. Nasal septum surgeries repositions your septum and takes up to two hours. Though this procedure is safe, there are some risks involved and are mainly pertaining to anesthesia.

A deviated septum could be not a big deal or it could be, you need to be educated about its complications, severity and treatments. Seek professional advice from nose surgeons.

The human nose is considered to be the feature having the most impact on facial appearance. There are often ethnic differences in nasal shape as well.

An Asian nose job is a type of procedure that is used to alter the shape of the Asian nose to give it more Caucasian characteristics. This involves increasing the height, decreasing the width, and refining the shape of the tip. The procedure is often referred to as an ‘ethnic nose job’.

The majority of nose job patients in the past have been mostly concerned with the reduction of size. In recent years, the very nature of facial beauty has shifted. A better understanding of what is considered attractive has led to procedures such as Asian nose jobs that are more concerned with achieving balance and harmony in the facial features.

The main idea of the procedure is not to attempt to cover up the unique ethnic differences or enhance the nose reduce it or otherwise, but rather to enhance the natural beauty in them. In other words, the idea is not to make Asians look less Asian, or Africans to look less African. Rather, the idea is to make them look more so by increasing the natural balance of the face.

The actual procedures used do not differ from traditional nose jobs used on Caucasians. This has led to some confusion. Some people have viewed these procedures as a totally different type of Medical procedure similar to acupuncture or herbal healing. The method of surgery and the recovery time and surgical risks are the same. It is really a matter of design and shaping rather than a separate procedure. nose jobs without surgery are available and less evasive.

In 2004, racial and ethic minorities were the patients in over 20 percent of all cosmetic surgery procedures. The growing desire of people to look better and look younger, but also to retain the ethnic qualities that make them unique and beautiful, has led to an increase in Asian nose job procedures. Remember no nose surgery is without risk.

As with all cosmetic surgical procedures, patient expectations and desires play a large part in the ultimate decision of what should be done. The surgeon has the knowledge of what is possible and together the patient and nose doctor can develop a surgical plan that can produce the desired results. It is important to understand that there are no exact scientific formulas as to what constitutes beauty. It is a largely subjective area and subject to cultural differences in perception. Ultimately, despite any ethic or racial differences, the goal is to make you look the way that makes you feel best and satisfies your own sense of beauty.

Nasal reconstruction is done when the nose has been injured or altered due to trauma, previous surgery, malignancy, or problems related to infection or scarring. It is most commonly done after removal of external skin tumors such as basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma or melanoma of the nose or internal nasal tumors. Other nasal reconstruction consists of Asian nasal jobs, Broken nasal surgery and Septoplasty.

Nasal septal reconstruction or septoplasty is usually done to repair nasal airway problems due to a deviated septum caused by congenital abnormalities or trauma. This is most often a functional surgery that repairs altered anatomy of the nasal septum and does not alter the external appearance of the nose. See also nasal sinus surgeries.

Cleft rhinoplasty, usually done between the ages of 16 and 20, involves the repair of a nasal deformity from a cleft lip and/or palate.

Rhinoplasty is an operation to alter the external appearance of the nose, either for cosmetic reasons or following trauma such as a car accident. The most common procedures in nose surgery and rhinoplasty are removal of a dorsal hump from the nose, straightening a crooked nose or alteration of the nasal tip.

Use of Packing

We usually do not use packing following nasal surgery since removing it is uncomfortable for patients. Instead, nasal stenting is done which consists of pieces of Silastic or silicone sheeting placed along the septum to provide support. The stenting remains in place for a week after the surgery. Rhinoplasty in Toronto has offices that will help you understand these procedures and allow you to make an informed decision.

Reconstructive Surgery: Effective for Improving Your Physical Appearance

Normally, there are two main categories of patients, who require reconstructive surgery - those with congenital deformities (birth defects) and those with developmental deformities (caused due to an accident, injury, or disease). Reconstructive surgery is designed to correct all of these problems, thus giving the patient an improved appearance and a new outlook on life.

Find an Experienced Reconstructive Surgeon to Address Your Needs

It is better to contact a reconstructive surgeon if these abnormalities impact your life in a negative way. An experienced and talented reconstructive surgeon performs a variety of surgical procedures to improve a damaged or abnormal part of the body.

These include:
Birth deformity reconstruction
Breast reconstruction
Burn reconstruction
Cancer reconstruction
Reconstruction after skin cancer
Hand surgery
Body & wound reconstruction
Craniofacial surgery
Flap and microsurgery

Effective, Lasting Results

There is a definitive reconstructive option that can help improve the problem. Reconstructive surgery has proven to be effective in improving the facial features and body structure, yet it is not free from risks and complications. When compared to other plastic surgery procedures, the recovery time for reconstructive surgery may be a bit longer, the price of rhinoplasty is quite high, but it is worth it because the results will last a lifetime.

The Operation
The operation is usually performed under general anaesthesia. Depending on the exact type of surgery to be performed, it may be necessary to take some spare cartilage from the ear in order to build up areas of the nose that may be deficient. The operation will last between one to two hours depending on the extent of surgery to be performed.

Any Alternatives
Some minor deformities of the nose may be helped by injections beneath the skin (subcutaneous) but more lasting results require surgery. With techniques you can make a large nose small without surgery. Some of the nasal bridge problems may be disguised by wearing glasses but no external prosthesis will adequately disguise nasal deformities. Do your research and seek advice on rhinoplasty forums and blogs.
Before the Operation
Your nose surgeon will assess the type of surgery that needs to be performed and will give advice about your pre-operative medication. Pricing for rhinoplasty will also be discussed at this time. It is useful to avoid smoking and stop taking any Aspirin or tablets containing Aspirin. This helps to prevent bleeding during and after surgery. Your surgeon will assess if there is problems with the internal area of the nose. It may be necessary to remove some of the middle cartilage of the nose at the time of surgery to improve the airway. This is called a Septoplasty.

After the Operation
You are likely to have a protective splint over your nose, which will stay on for between a week and ten days. If it has been necessary to take cartilage or skin from your ear, you may also have a bandage around your ear. You may well have a blocked nose because of the surgery and also because of the use of packs in the nostrils, which may be required to support the new shape of the nose. If the surgery is to the tip of the nose only, packs may not be required. If the surgery is of a delicate nature, not involving the bones, an external plaster splint may also not be required. After the surgery the nurse will take your pulse, blood pressure and temperature and check that there is no excessive bleeding. It is likely that your face will be bruised afterwards and you may develop black eyes. The bruising will take two to three weeks to resolve. If you have packs they are usually removed twenty-four hours following surgery at which time minor amounts of bleeding can occur. Pain killing tablets are usually sufficient but injections may very occasionally be required. You will be nursed in a semi-upright position and should avoid stooping, straining, bending and coughing if possible. You should also not blow your nose after surgery as this can cause bleeding. Gentle sniffing is usually enough to clear the airways. You will probably notice however that there is swelling inside and you may have a feeling of a blocked nose for two to three weeks following surgery. In some situations it can take longer to resolve.

After at Home
Rhinoplasty recovery, depending on the exact amount of surgery that was required, the type of protective bandaging over the nose may vary from a plaster type splint to only some paper stitches. Again depending on the extent of surgery that was required on the inside of the nose, the nose may be blocked. This can last for two to three weeks following surgery. Your doctor will have advised you on how to avoid doing activties which can cause exertions such as stooping, straining or bending for a few weeks following surgery.

Complications
Surgery for Tiplasty or nose augmentation should be avoided in people who a have a cough, colds or have evidence of infection in and around the nose at the time of the surgery. Bleeding does occur during surgery but this is usually stopped on return to the ward. Occasionally it can occur again while the patient is in hospital and this may necessitate a return to theatre. Should any infection intervene at the time following surgery this is another cause of bleeding. This tends to occur between seven and ten days following surgery. It necessitate packing of the nose and very occasionally a return to theatre. Due to the narrowness of the nasal passageways, swelling after surgery causes them to become even narrow. This can cause some difficulty with breathing which can take a few months to settle. Removal of some of the cartilage in the centre of the nose may be performed at the time of Tiplasty in order to improve the nasal airways. Examination of the nose prior to surgery would indicate whether this was necessary. This would be discussed with your surgeon prior to the operation.

Minor irregularities over the tip of the nose can occur following Tiplasty type procedures. These may become apparent and in a small number of cases, need surgical correction at a later date. This can be performed when the swelling following surgery has returned to normal. These minor irregularities may be less noticeable in those who have thick-skinned noses. Some patients also find that they may have an altered smell after the surgery.

General Advice
Depending on the extent of surgery the swelling after augmentation / Tiplasty depends on the extent of the surgical procedure. Surgery to the tip of the nose itself may produce minimal swelling. However extensive surgery involving the bones of the nose may produce significant swelling post-rhinoplasty, cause bruising to last for a few weeks following surgery. The exact end result can depend on the quality of the tissue and occasionally there are minor irregularities underneath the skin that may become apparent when the swelling resolves. On occasion these irregularities may benefit from re-operation.

The Problem with a Broken Nose
The nose contains the most frequently broken bones in the face. A "broken nose" may have injured bone, cartilage, nerves, skin or mucosa (nasal lining). The nasal bones rigidly support the upper portion of the nose between the eyes. The cartilages are flexible supports that maintain the shape of the rest of the nose. The septum divides the nostrils. The support of the septum is made of both cartilage and bone. The septum is held near the lips by the nasal spine a part of the maxilla (the bone under the upper lip).

Air traveling through the nose is normally controlled by the position of the cartilages. Bone and cartilages out of place can obstruct the nose. Swelling and clotted blood will also limit the flow of air.

The nose humidifies the air before passing into the lungs. When the nose is blocked air travels through the mouth. This may cause snoring in children and adults. Prolonged breathing through the mouth will leave it dry. The injuries may be as simple as just some bruising or may result in severe deformity.

Bruising results from blood spreading into the skin and the underlying tissues. The bruises often migrate around the eyes and eventually down the cheeks. The body slowly absorbs this pigmentation. These bruises will usually fade over time.

Swelling comes from injured tissue and can result in pain. Moving fractured bones and cartilage results in additional swelling. The weight of glasses or goggles can further injure a broken nose.

Nasal fracture may be a part of a more severe injury. There may be other bones injured in the face. The nasal fracture often is treated at the same time as the more severe facial fractures. More severe forms of nasal fractures may need surgery where the bones are realigned and held in place with tiny wires, plates or screws. There may be other parts of your body that have been injured that usually take priority over the nasal fracture.

Benefits from Surgery
An injured nose can bleed from lacerations (cuts) of the skin or inside the nose. These cuts may need to be repaired and evaluated immediately. Excessive activity may restart bleeding. Blood can also collect inside tissue (hematoma). A septal hematoma can cause trouble by injuring or thickening the septal structures. Injured septal structures may result in the loss of structural support of the nose. Septal thickening may obstruct the nose. Someone should look into your nose to determine if there is a hematoma.

Cartilage or bone may be broken, out of place, or injured. To restore your appearance these may need realignment. Many individuals have prior injuries, distortions, or asymmetries that have gone unnoticed. We ask that you bring a preinjury photograph to help see what your nose was like before injury. A fracture reduction will not improve old deformities. Even if the nose is made symmetrical it will drift back into the preinjury position. After the structures have healed a rhinoplasty (surgery on the nose) may help correct deformities.

Alternative Care
The choice is either no evaluation or evaluation, treatment or no treatment. You could let an injured nose just heal as it is. Deformities would not be corrected and problems that might be improved would not be not addressed. Nose surgery in Toronto is a safe bet to a healthy recovery

How it is done
Sometimes the nasal structures go back into place with a minimum of force. Often a reduction with manipulation and instruments are necessary. A combination of medication inside the nose and injections around the nose lessens the discomfort. If there are other injuries you may need a more extensive evaluation and treatment. Many simple fractures can be reduced in a well equipped office or outpatient setting. More complicated injuries may need hospitalization and services of anesthesiologists and other medical personnel.

This reduction should take place within a certain period of time from the injury. Unless the injury is severe, nose job surgeons have their patients wait a couple of days after an early evaluation (until most of the swelling goes down). If we wait too long the operation becomes more difficult and has a lower chance of success. Your doctor should help you determine if an operation is necessary, and the best timing. Do not delay in making your appointment.

Reduced nasal fractures can move out of alignment.
A plastic splint molded to your nose will help maintain alignment. Additional deforming forces like glasses or goggles can defeat the splint and must be avoided. Nasal packing may rarely be necessary for internal support or control of bleeding. Since such packing is usually uncomfortable, I avoid this technique unless absolutely necessary.

Risks
Breaks in bone or cartilage may heal with a deformity. Even if well aligned, a bump can develop. Cartilage is an unusual material. Small cracks develop when severely bent (which can happen with trauma). As the cartilage heals, it can distort. After waiting several months for healing, rhinoplasty dr’s may use this unusual property to correct these bends. By surgically scratching the cartilage Dr. Bermant will try to make it bend the other way. Cartilage may need to be removed or reinforced surgically. The surgical correction of the septum is called a septoplasty.

Infection is rare, but if it occurs it can cause significant problems. Lacerations cause scars. External scars sometimes need surgical revision. Internal nasal scars and deformities can increase your chance of nose bleeds. Damage to nerves can result in altered, diminished, or painful sensation or poor muscle function (paralysis). Injuries may obstruct the small holes that drain your sinuses. Pressure in sinuses can result in painful headaches.

What Happens After Surgery
Restoring the nasal anatomy may cause new swelling and bruising. The medication used to numb your nose wears off after several hours. If you required more extensive anesthesia or sedation, these take longer to wear off. Unless you do things that increase swelling or pain (like hit your nose), after nasal reduction generally it is not very painful. Bending and vigorous activities may increase your discomfort. Returning to work is a function of what you do, the degree of your injuries, and your own response to injury. After healing your nose will be a golden nose.

Sinus Infection also called as sinusitis is usually caused by cold, allergies, bacterial infection or abnormal growth that is blocking nasal passage. The common symptoms are stuffed nose and headache. The treatment for sinusitis does vary with its cause.

Many people with sinus problems usually caused by allergies, colds or other causes have symptoms of a stuffed up nose or headache. These are usually signs and symptoms of sinus a infection. The medical term for a sinus infection is sinusitis. Sinus infections afflict many, many people every year. Sinus infection symptoms are usually mild to severe headaches in the sinus area behind the eyes, forehead and cheek bones, in addition to a "stuffed up nose". There are many over the counter sinus infection treatments, or a person can see his regular physician or an allergist to take further steps to treat them better or prevent them.

What is a Sinus Infection?
Signs and symptoms of sinus infection are caused by an infection and the resulting swelling caused by the bacteria within the sinus cavities. The sinuses are cavities (openings) in continuous connection with the nasal openings in order for both air and mucous to flow free. It also gives our voice a certain sound. When a sinus is blocked (or stuffed) because of swelling and infection the air already inside the sinuses causes pressure and the result is a sinus headache. a sinus headache may also be caused by a deviated septum which may require septoplasty surgeon.

In addition in this situation (swollen nasal passages and sinuses, and perhaps treatment for nose polyps may be required), there is also air that is unable to get into the sinus and this is another reason for sinus pain. Sinus infection treatment is usually a sinus spray that is sometimes prescribed and sometimes gotten over the counter. These sprays provide treatment that kills the bacteria, and other microbes that are causing the various sinus infection symptoms.

What causes sinus infections?
There are many different causes of sinusitis. One cause would be anything that blocks the passages in the openings of the passages a growth or tumor that needs to be removed surgically. Sometimes over the counter nasal sprays can not only cause infection, but can also be addictive. Cocaine and other illegal drugs that are snorted through the nasal passages can also cause irritation and sinus infection. Nasal reconstruction surgery is generally the only answer in these cases.

There are also various kinds of bacteria that can also cause sinus infections. In addition the cilia, which are small hairs in the nasal passages and sinus cavities that help to move mucous out of the nasal area, can get damaged by smoke, lack of humidity or other causes. When this happens the mucous stagnates and becomes a perfect area for bacteria to grow and start an infection. Allergies to food and other substances can also be a cause of food allergies.

Types of Sinus infection
Sinus infections are classified in two different ways, length of time and whether they are infectious or not. There are Acute-lasting less than a month, Sub-acute-lasting from 1-3 months long, and Chronic- which are those infections that have lasted longer than 3 months. Infectious sinus infections are generally caused by a virus, but less often they can be caused by a bacterial infection. Non-infectious are generally caused by either allergies or environmental irritations, such as smoke or drug (legal or otherwise) use. Sub-acute and chronic conditions are usually caused by insufficient or lack of treatment for acute sinusitis.

Signs and Symptoms of Sinusitis
The usual symptoms are headache, facial tenderness, and as few as 25% of patients with acute sinusitis have fever associated with it. Sore throat, coughing, and a cloudy, greenish or yellowish nasal discharge are few common signs of Sinusitis.

Some additional signs that the doctor will check for in order to diagnose sinusitis are swollen areas around the eyes, nasal passages that have become reddened, facial areas over the sinuses that are tender to percussion (tapping) and drainage from the nose that is similar to pus. Sometimes additional information is used to diagnose this information, such as patient history, and certain tests such as a CT scan or MRI might also be performed because these tests are far better at revealing the actual infection than an X-Ray.

Treatment of Sinusitis
Treatment usually consists of the patient beginning with over the counter fever/headache medications such as Tylenol (Acetaminophen) and if the symptoms are not gone within a week then the nose doctor will assume that it is a bacterial infection and then provided the appropriate antibiotic. Usually the patient must remain on antibiotics for at least 10-14 days.

Sometimes, the antibiotics need to be continued up to 21 days if the infection is chronic. However extremely chronic infections sometimes do not respond to a regular course of prescription medication and the patient may respond better to either a longer course of medication or may even need to be physically drained. This is a surgical procedure and will require a hospital stay.

While it doesn’t happen very often, there are times that complications can set in. It is possible with chronic sinusitis that the situation may arise that the infection may extend into the brain and cause an infection there and eventually cause death. However, as was stated earlier, this is a rare occurrence and does not happen frequently.

Sinusitis is usually a very easily treated disease if treatment is sought in a timely manner and the proper treatment is provided. If the conditions returns often it is advised that the patient attempt to determine if an allergy is the cause. surgery or nose jobs are not required.

Rhinoplasty can be used to change a lot about a nose, from size and width to the shape and position of nostrils. The tip of the nose can be reshaped, the look corrected, and breathing difficulties can be fixed.

Rhinoplasty is really any surgical procedure that reshapes the nose, and may also be called a nose job. Rhinoplasty is for men and women. There are some important things to think about before you have one of these procedures done.

Before you have any kind of surgery, you’ll have to avoid eating or drinking for about six to twelve hours, you won’t be able to smoke, and you’ll have to discontinue a number of medications. That keeps you from having side effects or complications and speeds up healing.

Your surgeon must know about any drugs, vitamins, and herbal preparations you take, as well as your daily activities and any health conditions you suffer. Talk to him or her about everything, even if it doesn’t seem relevant.

Plastic surgery in nose is among the top five cosmetic surgery procedures, and has a long history of success. However, you could still suffer from some side effects, from bleeding or infection to nasal obstruction or an undesirable appearance after surgery.

There are two basic types of rhinoplasty - primary and secondary. Primary rhinoplasty is further divided into open and closed surgeries.

Open rhinoplasty is a major nose rehshaping, in which incisions are made in the strip of skin between the nostrils, or columella. Then the skin is removed and pulled up off of the nose’s structure so that the nasal anatomy is clear, and replaced later.

Closed rhinoplasty is a more minor procedure, with less severe incisions. Secondary rhinoplasties are done to correct problems from previous surgeries, and may take a long time.
There is also a surgery called a filler rhinoplasty. Filling agents or cartilage are used to fill in depressions, so that tissue does not need to be removed.

If you’re interested in this kind of surgery, you’ll have to talk to your surgeon about your anatomy and expectations. Bring pictures that you like to show the surgeon what you want, and think about having other procedures you want performed at the same time.

Rhinoplasty itself takes between fifteen minutes and a few hours, and is done on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and sedation, or general anesthesia.

After rhinoplasty it takes a while to recover, and you may not be able to breathe through your nose for the first twenty-four hours. Pain medication will be used for about two days, and you may experience nausea.

For the first few days post op rhinoplasty, bleeding is common, and cold compresses and head elevation is important. Don’t allow your nose to be traumatized, and use decongestants instead of blowing your nose.

Cosmetic Surgeons are popular and have been for some time for cosmetic surgery. Anyone who can make your skin look younger and more gorgeous, or handsome, may not be all that bad, if you can afford their costs of course. Most cosmetic surgeries are elective, so that means the decision to have a procedure done is very personal to you and you alone.

Everyone has their own reasons for wanting to have this kind of surgery, so, before you start searching for a plastic surgeon, search within yourself and decide if those reasons really make sense. If you truly feel that cosmetic surgery will make a difference in your self-esteem and ultimately your life, then you are probably ready to start shopping around for a cosmetic surgeon.

All cosmetic nose surgeons are not created equal, so you have to gather several opinions to make an informed choice that will best suit your needs. For instance, some rhinoplasty physicians focus only on procedures for the face, while others may target breast surgery or liposuction. Take the time and do a little research to narrow down the particular doctors who perform the procedures that you want accomplished on you. Once you have several names on your list, the next step is to ask some questions. You want to make sure that they will listen to what you want and need, while making the best medical decisions based on their personal assessment of your condition.

Here are seven questions to ask your potential cosmetic surgeon:

1. What procedure do you suggest for my goal of a facelift, brow lift, laser skin resurfacing, forehead lift, asian nose rhinoplasty (or whatever your goal is)? By leaving this a rather open-ended question, the cosmetic surgeon has the chance to show you how much he knows. Each may have slightly different answers as to how to help you achieve your goal. You job is to determine which sounds the best for your lifestyle.

2. How many years and how often have you been performing this reconstructive rhinoplasy procedure or which ever procedure you are undergoing? Obviously, this question is asking the skin specialist how much experience he really has. You want someone who has been around the block a few times. Tied in with this question could be inquiries as to the surgeons schooling and whether they keep up with the latest technologies and continuing education. Hospital privileges and Board Certification are also important to know.

3. What results can I expect from this rhinoplastic cosmetic surgery? This is a realistic expectation to have. You want to know the possibilities. Ask your plastic surgeon about computer imagery to compare a before picture and a realistic expectation of what your results might be. this will also give you a nose surgery before & after photo.

4. Can you tell me the possible risks and problems I might encounter? Being warned ahead of time is important in case the operation is not quite what you expect. Sometimes, it is your personal medical history that could make achieving your dream results difficult. Other times, it could be a reaction to anesthesia or an infection at an incision site. Preparedness is helpful for peace of mind.

5. How long will it take to recover from the cosmetic surgery? No two cosmetic surgeons are the same, nor may they use the same surgical procedures to accomplish your goal. Each situation is different and recovery times will also depend on your own general health. The healthier you are to begin with, the quicker you bounce back to real life.

6. What is the cost of getting this skin care treatment? Again, each procedure is different with doctors charging different rates. Also, in some cases, insurance may pick up the tab. Sometimes, payment plans are an option. Ask in advance what their fees and other costs cover. Will it take care of post-operative care and follow-up visits?

7. If I smoke, does it matter? Be sure to tell them if you smoke or not. If you are a smoker, this could potentially have an impact on your recovery time and even the choice of anesthesia and other medications, especially those for post-operative pain.

All of these questions and much more are a part of the process in choosing the best cosmetic surgeon for your needs. If you manage to find a good cosmetic surgeon, the whole operative and recovery process will be a whole lot better for you. And soon you will have a new look and life.
